In this week’s post: I’m sharing my own self-care routine that keeps me healthy & happy to give you some ideas for creating your own self-care routine!
Hi there beautiful!
This week I thought it’d be fun to share my own self-care routine to give you some ideas for creating your own self-care routine.
Last week, we talked about why it’s important to include self-care in your life and we busted the myth that self-care is selfish. If you haven’t read that post yet, go check it out here.
While I believe self-care is a must-do, it can take whatever form you like and should include things that YOU find nurturing. So if my routine doesn’t appeal to you, you can definitely mix it up and I’ll provide some more ideas later in the post.
That said, there are 3 areas that you definitely want to be doing some form self-care activity for. These are:
- Nutrition – Make sure you are keeping your body hydrated & fuelling it with what it needs to feel healthy.
- Movement – This will help everything from your joints & muscles to your mental health & energy.
- Mind – If you want to live a happy life, you need to be checking in with your mind on the daily (ignoring what you’re thinking and feeling is a recipe for disaster – trust me I’ve been there!!). This can be as simple as taking a few moments every now & then to intentionally take some deep breaths to recentre, or as serious as having a full-blown journaling session to do a deep-dive into your thoughts & feelings.
Keep these in mind as you read through my self-care routines to think about what you would like to include into yours.

Now let’s dive in!
My Morning Self-Care Routine
First thing in the morning, I’ll do the following:
- Drink a mug of warm water
- Have a nutritious breakfast (aka porridge – with berries if they are in season)
- Take a few moments to journal what I am grateful for, my goals & intentions for the day
- Move my body in some way – usually a walk in nature and a 7-minute workout using the free Workout Women app (access it for Apple here or Android here)
- Say my affirmations – I have my affirmations recorded on my phone and listen & repeat them while walking or having my shower
- If I have time I’ll meditate or visualise
This morning self-care routine leaves me feeling healthy, energised and ready to dive into my day!

My Daily Self-Care
During the day, I try to be intentional about including some self-care throughout so that I can stay productive and feel good within myself. Plus I like to throw in some fun things like connecting with friends, listening to an inspiring podcast episode, or just doing something I enjoy.
Here’s what I do:
- Take regular breaks to refresh – I like to stretch my body, take some deep breaths and rest my eyes
- Eat regularly – I get irritated & angry when I’m hungry (aka hangry!) so I do my best to have morning & afternoon tea as well as a decent lunch to keep me going
- Drink regularly – possibly even more important than eating regularly, I need to drink regularly to avoid dehydration which causes me to feel lethargic, headachey and can even give me kidney pain (thanks to my kidney disease)
- Connect with my friends – mainly online at the moment but it can be fun to have lunch with friends when possible
- Listen to an inspiring podcast – either something that is uplifting or gives me some food for thought about something
- Something fun – like spending time on a hobby, reading, doing a puzzle, going out in nature or doing some gardening, hugging a pet – whatever is going to put a smile on my face 🙂

My Nightly Self-Care Routine
How we spend our nights can set us up for a great tomorrow, so I like to follow a nighttime routine to give myself the best chance of sleeping well (super important!) and feeling good as soon as I wake up the following day.
My nightly self-care routine usually includes:
- Prepare my clothes, snacks and anything else I’ll need that can be prepped ahead of time
- Set up the dishwasher to run, tidying things away and putting a load of laundry in the washing machine to start first thing in the morning
- Avoid electronics for 30-60 minutes before bed
- Do stretches or yoga
- Journal my favourite 3 moments from the day & plan out my intentions for tomorrow
- Use some hand cream or dab some lavender on the insides of my wrists (to help me sleep)
A few of these things wouldn’t traditionally be considered self-care (like the prepping & tidying) BUT they do help to give me peace of mind knowing that I won’t need to do these things during the morning rush! They make my mornings feel much more easeful and that is definitely a form of self-care in my view 🙂

So there you have it! These are the self-care activities that I include regularly into my day-to-day routines. I hope you find this inspiring!

Practicing self-care means that we can perform at our best. We can deal with all the craziness life throws our ways much better than when we don’t pay attention to our health & wellbeing. It is definitely worth prioritising a bit of time to take care of yourself.
All the best & much love,
Sarah xo
